Winter Habits to keep coming back to:
Creating wholesome habits for yourself during this time is like setting boundries that keep you safe! But winter comes and often we don’t change anything! We don’t change the pace we’ve been running off in the previous season, in fact at times we fall into the pressures of the busy festivities that we are bombarded with, celebrations and new year goals! —but if you take things on with more awareness and balance during the winter time it will change your lifestyle for the better.
To be your own medicine will keep you alive, well and help you recover deeper and more fully from any ailments or illness…it doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.
Start by practicing these winter habits I’ve listed below, commit in doing them weekly for the rest of winter and notice how amazing you feel after.
* Say No more often. Saying no to any more load during this time is going to support your nervous system and in turn keep your immune system stronger, which is vital during winter! the body always gives us those tale tail signs it’s starting to push through and hold too much, so listen!
And remember you are in your winter body, it is more delicate. So when you go beyond the threshold it will break and feel rundown! We think winter brings in all the germs and viruses— it doesn’t, we just have little to no sun to keep immunity strong and these things at bay! It’s a different season and it’s here for recovery, rest and hibernation because of the lack of sun to keep charged… But as we keep going at a high pace, we risk getting rundown.
So it’s best to keep that load manageable then overload and spill over and be out of action! Make it a habit to be home more during this time, can you work from home a little more, reduce travel! Take time to make your home feel like a sanctuary—A place of rest. Less doing more being. Set the tone. involve the whole family or friends.
* Hydrate. Really simply just drink more pure filtered water, or herbal tea! When the body has water it will be able to flush out toxins, virus, germs.
*Support the lymphatic system to flush out even deeper toxins with self massage, you can use the power of your hands, a body gua sha tool, a body brush and loofa. Great for circulatory system too, getting rid of stagnant blood, congestion and stagnant energy in the body. Keep yourself cleansed. Even better if you have access to a sauna or sauna blanket— keep sweating!
* Get as much morning sunlight /winter sun as possible, with the shorter days and less sun exposure we are down on vitamin D. The sun is medicine. ( Ra —the Sun god) Daylight is medicine! and we need the difference in natural light to balance circadian rhythm in the body. This supports sleep and we need deeper sleep support to repair and replenish the body and mind.
* Rest more!! Attend offerings of meditation, guided restorative practices, switch your yoga practice style to a yin yoga routine. Yes I hear you when you are stuck with that need to keep working or you can’t take time off work or reduce your workload hours, but you can create better balance in your free, get the rest needed to balance your body and nervous system from all that.
Final reminder…
when you do rest you really will be more productive, you will be more receptive and able to listen into yourself. Neutral time allows you to receive messages of guidance and insight, you become more intuitive and from that you are then able to take action when springtime arrives.
just give yourself time. After all it really is all we have!
Stay warm 💛
Love
